Together in the EU – togEUther!

Was unsere Gäste über ihren Aufenthalt sagen:

ITALIEN:

EUGENIA GIORDANO, a teacher at IIIF Istituto Paolo Vasta:

Germany was our first country to visit during the project “TogEUther” and it was definitely a success. Cologne is an amazing city, which was also what each of us expected. However, we all found Dormagen also to be a great small town, especially the historical part was a highlight, and, of course, Bettina-von-Arnim-Gymnasium.

Visiting Bettina-von-Arnim-Gymnasium was also an enriching experience for us. The week started with the welcoming event at the school and there was the first surprise: the amazing teachers’ band played for the audience, which was very impressing. We were then welcomed by the headmaster Mr. Lindner and by the coordinating teachers Lena Licht and Daniel Grimmer. The city representative Mr. Schlimgen highlighted the European relations of the town of Dormagen (like twin towns in France and Spain), which will, hopefully, soon stretch out to Sicily, too. After the event, we had an opportunity to talk to the students, their parents and the teachers.

The days at the school were filled with various interesting activities, but the highlight of the week was the Carnival event at the school. It was amazing to see how all the students and the teachers all acted like one well-coordinated team, having fun together, dancing, singing, joking and enjoying the Carnival spirit. Different city Carnival organisations visited the school, too. It was great that not only the students had prepared some Carnival fun activities, but also the teachers danced for the students and we, the Erasmus teachers, could even take part in this dance, which was fantastic. Of course, our students danced, too – together! Alaaf!

The students were happy to find new friends, to speak English and to find out so many new things about the German, French and Spanish cultural points like games and traditions and celebrations, which underlined the similarities in European culture, but also some differences that make us so special. Everyone, including the migrant students, could show the uniqueness of the cultural backgrounds and the fun we all had truly brought us together. This is Europe at its best! Thank you, Bettina-von-Arnim-Gymnasium, we are looking forward to welcoming you in Sicily in May!

GIULIA LEOTTA,  a student at IIIF Istituto Paolo Vasta:

My travel experience was wonderful because I met new friends. I improved my English because it’s the official language of the project, I liked the school and the carnival party and all the monuments. It’s the experience that I will always remember
Ryan Shenuka, a student at IIA Paolo Vasta Acireale:

I am enthusiastic of my new German friends – Cologne is beautiful, especially the Carnival! We especially  had a lot of fun during the treasure hunt organized in Zons, the historical area of the beautiful city, Dormagen.

Andrea Russo, a student at IIIF Istituto Paolo Vasta:

My experience with Erasmus Project was awesome because this gave a chance me to know German, Spanish and French guys, to find out about their culture, like their typical games, and test my English competence.
I liked the City of Cologne too, with its Dom and the Rhein River. I hope this project will go on during next years to allow also many other students to participate.
Roberta Bonadonna,a student at IIIH ICS PAOLO VASTA; ITALY:

I think we have been very lucky because – thanks to Erasmus Project – we are involved in and we are living an important experience, opening our minds in meeting different cultures.
I am sure that this kind of intercultural exchanges among many countries would be a relevant solution to improve collaboration of the entire Europe.

FRANKREICH:

The students at The College Gabriele Havez, Creil:

Cologne was great. Travelling by train was long but the hostel was so nice. The rooms were so cool. We met the Spanish and Italians. We were a little afraid. However, after we danced together, we became friends. Then, the school in Germany was amazing. So big, so many students. We had to introduce ourselves. It was sooo scary because everyone was speaking good English. We played ice -breakers. Then all the countries presented their national games. It was so interesting and fun! We also visited the city but what we really loved was spending time with the other students from the project “TogEUther”. Two German students were with us like almost all the time, also in the afternoons, and they showed us all the great places. Finally, in the end, we saw the parade of the Carnival. Waouh! We could catch sweets, flowers, objects. So many colours, so many people! We will never forget this moment. Unfortunately, we had to go back to France and we were so sad to leave our friends.

See you in France, soon!

Alaaf!!!

KÖLN

Going to Cologne (Köln) was an unforgettable, different and fun experience.
We loved meeting people from different places and talking with them, especially I was surprised that in such a short time we formed as a family because we took care of each other.
It was fun to walk through the streets of Köln visiting places, make games to find clues in Zons, a medieval village,It was awesome because it snowed to so the town looked prettier than before.

We go to the school and play typical games of each country and also the parties that were in the hostel, but in particular the carnival was incredible because everyone goes in disguise and has a great time.
Our families liked very much that we could travel to another country and they were very happy. Our families think it has been a fantastic experience for all of us, it has been very educative because we’ve learned about other cultures and socialized a lot.

And last, but not least, our friends told us things like “you’re very lucky”, “I hope you had a good time”, and things like that.

We didn’t expect to go to a place like that, I wasn’t expecting such a great place and trip.

Something we didn’t expect was meeting that wonderful people and make all that friends. So, the best thing was to do everything TOGEUTHER
