Cooking dishes from other countries „TogEUther“

On the 11th of April, a few students and two teachers met to make the impossible possible: Cooking dishes from different countries with 10 people in a small kitchen.

On 11.04.2019 the time had come: We (Marja, Adam, Leonie, Pia, Robert, Rinat and Leni from grades 7a/7c) gathered with Mr. Brunner and Mrs. Licht in Celina’s kitchen to cook international dishes together and to experience cultural diversity from a different perspective. We had decided to prepare the following dishes: Kazakh manti, Spanish churros, French crepes, traditional German potato salad and meatballs and Kenyan samosas.

The individual dishes were prepared in teams: Pia and Leni took care of the crepes and the preparation of the meatballs, while Leonie and Marja manufactured the dough for the churros. Adam´s and Celina´s mission of the day was to turn potatoes and other ingredients into the traditional potato salad and Rinat (as a manti professional) taught us how traditional Manti is concocted in his home country Kazakhstan. While the dishes were prepared we had a lot of fun and Leni enriched the whole progress with her dance moves. What we could discover: Despite the different ingredients, the variety of taste and the different cultural backgrounds, the preparation and appearance of the dishes, e.g. Manti and Samosas, are characterized by many similarities.

In spite of the chaos and the challenge of cooking in a small kitchen with 10 people, the cooking event was a complete success (except for a few hard pieces of potato and the aspect that our lunch shifted into a dinner because we had misjudged the length of the preparation time). Many photos were taken and we are ready for a second attempt to prepare international dishes „TogEUther“.
